How many Kansas Opponauts are there? Any out towards Topeka or Manhattan? I'll be returning to Kansas from Massachusetts tomorrow and I need to know a bit more about that region, since this will be my first long stay in the state.

lol I broke down on the other side of the state in a 73 BMW 3.0s once driving from Denver to CT, and Manhattan was the home to the only dealer (and the college) in the state at the time. Fedex was my friend that day

Yeah, I went to HS there. All there is to do in that fucking state is drink and drive. Just, not at the same time.

oh yeah, I have some friends in the Hays/Russell area. Really nothing to do at all except for those 2 things. Rent is damn cheap out there though, damn!

Honestly what is there to do out there? I didn't spend much time in Kansas last summer before I deployed. I know about Aggieville and Tuttle Creek, but I don't drink and I don't have a Jeep. Any tracks? Autocross? I've been to the Combat Air Museum.

You going to Fort Riley? I used to go to a place called Pillsbury's Crossing, it's a part of the Oregon Trail and there's some tiny waterfalls and it's kind of a stream. Here's a link about it http://kansastravel.org/pillsburycross… You would have to check online for Auto crossing. There's plenty of strip clubs in Junction City, but I would stay out of them. It's where every fuck up from Manhattan ends up. I used to play a lot of pool at Fast Eddy's. They have a ladies night where ladies play free. Not a bad way to meet college girls, if you're free. Mainly though, I just worked out all the time. There's a zoo by the high school that's alright, if you're dying to see a giraffe.

I think if you have a google account you can sign in and do it yourself. If not I can dig back and see if I know who admins that

Yeah, back to Fort Riley, sadly. I don't like Kansas. No coastline and no mountains readily available drives me crazy. That's one of the best things about growing up in New England. The people are polite though, which is nice.

Pillsbury Crossing sounds familiar. I think we had some sort or briefing about that place. I try to stay out of Junction. Place is a dump and all too familiar to western Mass. I think Fast Eddy's is banned too.

Yeah, I think it's going to be a year travel. I'm tempted to put it in old mission control with a thing saying to tweet @torchbug. Which, totally needs to be a thing.

A bunch of us in Wichita. It's not far. Two hours. Come autocross with us, you know you want to.

There's also the Cosmosphere in Hutch, which is awesome. And the underground salt museum, which is interesting.

If you're in Topeka, don't miss out on Lawrence. It's about 30 minutes east of Topeka and is my favorite place in the world. Check out the university, the campus is gorgeous. Be sure to get a burger at the Burger Stand while you're there, it's amazing.

Fast Eddy's is banned? That's ridiculous. That bar is well run by a competent staff. There were soldiers there all the time when I lived there. The only thing I could find is that Silverados Saloon is off-limits. I say, good riddance, that bar was shit. It's where frat boys go and start fights.

There's one on Sunday and a couple more this summer. I think the next one is July 6th, I won't be able to go.

If you do want to make a trip to Wichita for autocross or something else let me know, I have a couch and/or a futon if you need a place to crash.

Well, I thought Fort Riley was actually a pretty decent place to be at. It's nice and quiet, there's Tuttle Creek State Park, ask around, someone will know what part is good to go swimming at. You can join the KSU yacht club and go sailing there also. When you exclude drinking, there's really not that much left. Maybe pursue more education?

It's nice, at least in the CAB. Can't vouch for up on Custer Hill. Probably going to begin pursuing an advanced education and learn how to work on cars in my spare time too.

I got tired of hearing those fucking cannons go off all day long. How long are you stuck there? I spent most of my service in Korea, which was perfect since I speak Korean.

Well since they changed PCS to 4 years, I have a little less than three years there now. I really don't want to go to Korea, or Bragg, or Campbell, or Stewart.

Wow, that is fucking awful. You'll get all 4 seasons though, the summers are ridiculously hot. I would recommend in the winter to use 3 and 4 day weekends to go to Colorado and go skiing. Korea isn't that bad. Well, if you are at Humphreys, it is pretty bad. But, public transportation is great and it's a whole new country. Germany would be the best for an Opponaut though. You could hit the ring, and plenty of F1 races within driving distance every year.

Yeah last summer was real fucking hot. Been thinking about doing Colorado ski trips. It'll actually justify getting ski racks.
